A series on artist’s self-portraits. Some are famous as portraitists, others not so much, but very many artists have painted their own portraits over centuries. Some of the more contemporary artists became more experimental with their style of painting as time went on, and it’s interesting to see that development in their own portraits as well.
I decided to run the series in alphabetical order rather than chronological order, to give a more interesting mix of styles through the ages.

Richard William Hamilton CH (1922 London – 2011 Northend, UK) was an
English painter and collage artist. He participated in This is Tomorrow at
the Whitechapel Gallery in 1956, for which he produced a collage entitled Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing? that was seen as possibly the earliest example of Pop Art.

Samuel Cooper, sometimes spelt as Samuel Cowper, (1609 London – 1672
London)was an English miniature painter, and younger brother of Alexander
Cooper.

Samuel Palmer (1805 London – 1881 Redhill, UK) was a British landscape
painter, etcher and printmaker. He was also a prolific writer. Palmer was a key
figure in Romanticism in Britain and produced visionary pastoral paintings.

painter noted for his depictions of Jewish life and same-sex desire.

Sir Stanley Spencer CBE RA (1891 Cookham, UK – 1959 Cliveden House, UK)
was an English painter. Shortly after leaving the Slade School of Art, Spencer
became well known for his paintings depicting Biblical scenes occurring as if
in Cookham, Berkshire, England.

Sir Terry Frost RA (1915 Leamington Spa, UK – 2003 Hayle, UK) was an
English abstract artist, who worked in Newlyn, Cornwall. Frost was renowned for
his use of the Cornish light, colour and shape to start a new art movement in
England.

Thomas Cowperthwait Eakins (1844 Philadelpia, PA – 1916 Philadelphia,
PA) was an American realist painter, photographer, sculptor, and fine arts
educator. He is widely acknowledged to be one of the most important artists in
American art history.

Thomas Hart Benton (1889 Neosho, Missouri – 1975 Kansas City, Missouri) was

Thomas Pollock Anshutz (1851 Newport, Kentucky – 1912 Philadelphia, PA) was
an American painter and teacher. Co-founder of The Darby School and leader at
the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Anshutz was known for his award-winning
