1896 Aleardo Villa (1865-1906) was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer. A disciple of Giuseppe Bertini and Bartolomeo Giuliano, Villa graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. In 1891 he exhibited his work Consolatrix Afflictorum at the Biera Triennial and acquired notoriety for its pictorial qualities. Endowed with a certain compositional ability and a predilection for colour, he specialised in portraiture, particularly the female figure. A few years later, however, he abandoned fine-art painting to pursue what he called "elemental painting", that is, advertising graphics.
