Wenceslaus Hollar - part 3

Wenceslaus Hollar (1607 Prague – 1677 London) was one of the premier etchers and draftsmen of the 17th century, known for his landscapes, architectural and topographical views, still-lifes, and women’s fashions. A prolific artist with 2,525 prints attributed to him.

For further biographical notes on Hollar, see part 1.
For more works, see parts 1 and 2 also.

This is part 3 of a 9-part series on the works of Wenceslas Hollar:

1645-47 Muffs

This is the second in a series of 'Muffs' dated between 1640 and 1647 and a major contribution to the history of printmaking. Furs had already been depicted in prints and paintings as accessories to portraiture but rarely shown as a still life object. Muffs were traditionally associated with women of fashion and sobriety in the seventeenth century, Hollar himself including muffs in a number of his fashion plates.
