1645-47 Muffs
This is the second in a series of 'Muffs' dated between 1640 and 1647
and a major contribution to the history of printmaking. Furs had already been
depicted in prints and paintings as accessories to portraiture but rarely shown
as a still life object. Muffs were traditionally associated with women of
fashion and sobriety in the seventeenth century, Hollar himself including muffs
in a number of his fashion plates.
