Albrecht Dürer - part 7

1512-13c Self Portrait of the Sick Dürer

Kunsthalle, Bremen

Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) was a German painter, engraver, printmaker, mathematician and theorist. Dürer revolutionised printmaking, elevating it to an independent art form. His high quality woodcuts established his reputation and influence across Europe when he was still in his twenties, and he is regarded as the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance. His vast body of works include altarpieces and other religious works, numerous portraits and self-portraits, and copper engravings.

For more biographical notes see part 1. For earlier works see parts 1 - 6 also.

  1. I enjoy your blog because your posts are always very thorough; thanks for that. You've got a typo for Durer's death date; it's 1528, not 1578.

  2. Thank you Briza. Now corrected. A typo yes - the correct date was in the biography in part 1.
